29 October 2010 - RE-OPENING

Some of these albums were posted in parallel with Countess Vanessa's Castle, I know it's a bit confusing for everyone - me included - but sometimes a sprinkle of madness doesn't disturb... does it?

BLOODWOOD - Man made music (Sidetrack, 1981)

Very good Australian folk album!
More stuff of this group will follow
As far as I know it must be their first LP
These people are still today on the road! :-))
Thanks to our Friend GRAAF for providing the track list that I'm always too lazy to compile!

GARY SHEARSTON - Folk songs & ballads of Australia (CBS, 1964)

This LP belongs to the first period of Gary Shearston, who released two LPs for the Australian CBS label within the early 60s.  He also appeared on a couple of folk anthologies that the Downunder CBS made (coming soon or "relatively soon", we'll see).  More or less 10 years later, he  reappeared with "Dingo" (Charisma, 1974 see foto at foot-post), an LP which unless someone specifically requests for, I will NOT scan-and-upload.  It was a disappointment for me, why should I also disappoint you, who are my good friends?
In any case, it's no more folk music at all.
Moral: "Get the good things while they're still available, there's no ensurance about tomorrow..."

"Dingo" the 1974 LP that I will NOT upload.

HALLIARD - Three titles (1967-1968)

An album (and its re-issue) that carries with itself lots of poisons and controversies, see comments in other blogs and you'll understand what I mean.  Out of the trolls' candid cameras, and faraway from the enemies of Music.

***********************************
IMPORTANT:
Our Friend Donna points out that this version is not complete, and I also agree that she's right. What I will do here is simply posting things that I managed to gather from various sources, as I have no real vynil LPs of this group. So, next week you'll see also the Halliard's other 2 works. Some CD publications offer reissues of already-released songs, therefore this will prevent the Halliard discography confusion to be finally resolved. It also took me some time for posting this stuff because I was looking for other possible higher-bitrate scans (which I didn't find).
Deep THANKS also to the precious help of my Friend Manila!

DAVE AND TONI ARTHUR - Hearken to the witches rune (Trailer, 1970)

An LP I don't love much,
but requested by Donna, therefore....
...how can one say no? :-)))
What I particularly don't like here is the poor quality of Dave Arthur's singing, especially if compared to Toni's high classed voice and control of the vocal instrument.
Even some counterpoints, which in the intentions would have been of refined construction,
fail in the concrete realization, and that's a shame.

JOHNNY ASHCROFT - Little boy lost (EMI Columbia, 1959 or 60?)

RE-UP: NEW LINK AND PW!
Thanks to JANISFARM for reporting the problem!

Franz writes: " I'm not sure of the release date but we can hear a number of fine folk tunes, some traditionals among them, sung with a curious and pleasing vocal technique that reminds of some rockabilly style.  On the same shelves, together with this album, I also found a kind of "greatest hits" of JA on sale, where he was singing some R'n'R standards, and the cover showed him dressed more or less like Gary Glitter. After listening to some songs, I decided to buy only the LP you see in the picture."

Thanks a lot, this version of Waltzing Matilda is for me the best I know!

PETER HAMMILL - Folk Anthology (home-made for 2 virtual CDs)

From FRANZ:
Can we give the title "folk" to this home-made collection of songs?  In my opinion, yes.
For those of you who are bold enough, and for those who don't have prejudices and won't ever fall prey of them: give a chance to this "side" of Peter Hammill.  His albums are not really 100% "folky", but on each of them there's always 1 or 2 cameo songs that you would happily name as folky. The songs are really high classed, melodies often weird, strange harmonies, exstended mastery of the voice, and a lot of emotions and love inside.  I had to exclude so many of him, I should have made a 3rd CD!
But explanations are useless in this case.
I made this 2 CD compilation for myself, about 10 years ago, so that I could have the songs with me on my MP3 players, this means that unfortunately there are quite low bit rates, at times (even to 96), and I'm sorry for that.  For the moment, let's imagine this as an experiment.
Anyway, I will have to rework completely this 'Best of' one day, because still so many songs come directly from half-cleaned vinyl LPs, while today I have all Hammill's discography on CDs.
Just consider that in any case you have nothing to lose.
Songs like Vision, Don't tell me, Ophelia, Solitude, The lie, Four pails, etc will blow you out of mind. And at the end, the great funny "Polaroid", not issude on the UK album edition - You CAN'T miss this!
For those who don't know Hammill at all, I wish you a happy time for your discovery.

for both, the PW is:

FOR THOSE IN A HURRY, HERE'S A FUNNY ONE BY HIM, DON'T MISS IT:
PETER HAMMILL - Polaroid
http://www.sendspace.com/file/tgw6q4
Me holidays on the Southern Sands,
trying to get some fun by way of one night stands...
I clocked this girl, thought l'd give her the chat -
one of them Swedish blonde types, and l've always fancied that.
I showed her me Polaroid.
She said "I like it, will you please take my picture?"
I say "Right then", thinking this is gonna be me lucky day.
She whips off her bikini top and I think "OK!"
I say "It only takes a minute for this thing to develop."
She says "I'd better push off now or me feller'll be jealous."
Just then I felt a hand on me collar, and it was a Boy in Blue.
He says "You can't take nude photographs on this beach,"
and "I'm arresting you." I protested me innocence,
but it was no use, the picture was forming;
he gave me the official warning that day.
He'd seen me Polaroid, so what could I say?
I got me Polaroid She got away.
I looked around, but she'd disappeared,
I say "You don't understand, this was all her idea"
but the copper says "Don't worry son, I get the picture OK."
He took me Polaroid and I got ten days.

Cheers, Franz

(Nothing) NEWS for my FRIENDS

Dear Friends,
as usual, I'll be away again for work till the 23rd of January, and won't be often online.
I leave you in company of what I've managed to pack and send during these latest days of holidays...  There are of course many more things already scanned, but they're not yet on the servers, and so... For Vashti Bunyan and further things, although I have already all files ready by me, you will need to wait till the next shipping, because I still have to scan-clean-edit-pack-prepare them etc and uploading them is always the longest procedure. But you're all ensured to be repaid for your patience, afterwards!
You have some new pics to view in my gallery, so feel free to tell me what LPs you prefer to hear first.
Remember to send me your comments
(POSITIVE ones, of course!!!!!)
so your Countess will be happy :-)

About Michael Chapman....

...Michael Chapman, as I have written somewhere, is an author that I like very little, not even his first 2 LPs sound to me very interesting. Albums like "Window" (1972) aren't something more than a light and monotonous  rock, inconsistent guitar riffs, sentences and chords repeated 1000 times, beginner-level strummed guitar solos, etc.,  but because of the Harvest label, look at all those sheep-collectors a-hunting!!!
Anyway, "Window" will appear here soon, coz the CD reissue has a different mix.
By me, as a steady rule, you find always and only the originals.
"Millstone grit" (Deram, 1973) is instead an album with something valuable, notably side A, with this lovely "Firewater dreams."
After this, only the LP "Pleasure of the streets" (1974, live), for me, has something to offer.
Anyway, the Chapman LPs will appear soon here because (as some of you told me) they seem to be nowhere else and coz they were requested by someone in Folk Impossible. That's why  :-))

BARBARA DICKSON - Do right woman (Decca, 1970)

For me, her absolute best album

JUDY COLLINS - Judith (Elektra, 1975)

Some beautiful music for starting the new year:

An amazing album
It contains the most beautiful song existing in the world: "The moon is a harsh mistress"....

You surf thru internet, you can easily find "Maid of constant sorrow", "Golden apples of the sun", "In my life", and many more LPs of hers ... But you can't find THIS LP, and it's unbelievable....! - There are gorgeous songs, like "Pirate ships", "Angel spread your wings", "Born to the breed"... well, I should name all of them... The whole album is gorgeous.....

EVENSONG - same (Philips, 1973)

The Evensong's only album
You can find this LP in another blog, but last month some visitors asked me if I have a good copy, coz it seems that the other available is not very clean. Whatever it is, now I upload mine here, you will judge what is the best of the two, I have no idea of the other one.  I would say my LP is anyway in very good conditions.

Thanks - once again - to the promptness of our friend Manila, we have this album available here!
Our friend Ghera requested it and it would have taken some time for me, to scan and digitalize the LP, but Manila arrived as quick as hell and preceeded me with his copy (from CD?), hence our... "thanksgivings" - *wink!!*

You see, folks, Manila's scan is perfect (picture below), but sometimes people also love to lurk something about labels, n there4...

FRANKIE ARMSTRONG - Out of love, hope and suffering (Bay, 1973) re-up

I started Folk Impossible with posting 3 albums: Mike Cooper and 2x Frankie. Unfortunately, for some technical mistake of mine, her 2 LP got damaged in the uploadings. Lots of disappointed visitors were writing for possible re-ups, which at the time I didn't wanna risk to do. So now, for all those who asked me again and again about her albums, here come the re-ups. The rate of this LP is 224 k.b/sec
And in addition, two more albums that in Folk Impossible didn't take place, so tht everyone should be happy now :-))
