29 October 2010 - RE-OPENING

Some of these albums were posted in parallel with Countess Vanessa's Castle, I know it's a bit confusing for everyone - me included - but sometimes a sprinkle of madness doesn't disturb... does it?

LINDA COHEN - Leda (Poppy, 1971)

No words to define this magnificent instrumental album: classical guitar and reverb effects with incredible sounds...

  1. In the late 60s, at the Second Fret on Sansom Street in Philadelphia, Linda Cohen opened for Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Joni Mitchell, John Fahey and Dave Van Ronk, whose blues-inspired guitar playing influenced her style.

Linda's album, "Lake of Light" (1973), & "Leda"(1972) were critically acclaimed and presaged by a full decade the fusion of classical, folk, blues and electronic music now known as Psych-Folk. Her album, Angel Alley, followed in 1982.

Charles Cohen (Theremin, oscillator), Jefferson Cain (sitar, autoharp), Mandrake Memorial's Craig Anderton (production, Celeste) and Michael Kac (harpsichord) played on her albums.

She supported herself by performing, composing and teaching guitar for more than 35 years out of the Classical Guitar Store on Sansom Street.

Sadly in January 2009, Linda Cohen, pioneer Philadelphia guitarist, composer and teacher died of lung cancer at her home in Center City.
